New Classic Jaguar Car Hire Specialist

Jaguars are one of the most popular classic cars for hire in the UK. Most classic car hire fleets are quite small so until now enthusiasts have had to pick and choose Jaguar cars, locations and websites in order to sample different classic Jag models. Great Escape Classic Car Hire has solved the problem by creating a specialist division to hire its large fleet of classic Jaguars.

The new division, Classic Jaguars, brings together the largest fleet of Jaguar classic cars in the UK. The cars can be viewed online at http://www.hireclassicjaguars.co.uk/.

Classic Jaguars from Great Escape has examples of virtually every classic Jaguar from the 1960s to 1990s available to hire from its sites in Suffolk, Worcestershire and Dorset. This is the widest range of classic Jaguar cars available for self drive hire in the UK. The new division enables visitors to browse the entire range in one place and hire any car from any of Great Escape's UK locations.

Classic Jaguars cars are available to hire at http://www.hireclassicjaguars.co.uk/ or by calling 01527 893733. They include the Jaguar Mk2, E Type convertibles and coupes with 4.2 and V12 engines, XJ6 saloon and coupe, XKR, XJR, and XJ-S convertible. Some of these cars are the only ones of their type available to hire in the UK. Prices start at £155 for 24 hours and include unlimited mileage, insurance and breakdown cover.

The new website includes descriptions and pictures of the cars and links to the Great Escape online availability check and booking system. Great Escape has also developed several unique Jaguar-themed classic car driving experiences that enable customers to sample several classic Jaguar cars in one day. These include the jaguar V12 Dilemma that compares the V12 Jaguar XJ-S with the V12 Jaguar E Type coupe.

Don’t let the chauffeur have all the fun on your wedding day

It’s the best day of your life and it’s all about you. So why is someone else driving that beautiful classic car on your wedding day? This is the question more and more couples ask as they ditch the chauffeur and switch to self drive wedding cars for their big day.

Great Escape Classic Car Hire, one of the largest self drive classic car rental companies in the UK, reports a significant increase in self drive wedding bookings compared to the same time last year. The company reports a 75% increase in this type of booking over 2008.

Self drive classic wedding car hire is the flexible and low cost alternative to hiring a chauffeur driven limousine and is proving increasing popular in these cash-strapped times. The credit crunch and the trend towards highly individual weddings appears to be behind the move towards self drive wedding car hire. Self drive gives couples the option of saloons, coupes and convertibles for transporting the Best Man and Groom and the family and bride to the church and on to the reception.

In a typical scenario the groom will hire a car like a white Jaguar E Type convertible to drive to the church with his Best Man and then whisk his wife away in it to the reception. Alongside the convertible the Bride and her Father hire a saloon, such as a Jaguar Mk2, which is driven by a family member or friend. This two-car arrangement would typically cost £700-800 with chauffeur hire but can be around half that with self drive hire. Self drive hire has the added bonus of being much more flexible because you don’t have to stick to strict waiting times. Companies like Great Escape hire their cars on a 24 hour basis so you also get plenty of time before the wedding to enjoy the cars.

“We are right at the start of the wedding booking season and already our self drive wedding bookings are much higher than the same time last year,” reports Graham Eason of Great Escape.

Great Escape operates a fleet of nearly 40 classic cars from locations in Suffolk, Worcestershire and Dorset. The company has developed its service for wedding couples to help make it even easier to build self drive hire into your big day. As well as a straightforward collection and return system from each base the company will also deliver and collect to local addresses or provide a low cost collection service after the wedding.

The Great Escape Classic Car Hire fleet includes classic cars from Aston Martin, Jaguar, Jensen, Triumph, Porsche, Rolls Royce, MG, Volkswagen, Ford, Mini and Morris. The cars range from the 1950s to 1990s and prices start at just £125.

Jaguar E Type versus Morris Minor Traveller

Great Escape Classic Car Hire has created the perfect antidote for classic enthusiasts pressurised by the credit crunch. Its new Tortoise and Hare Weekend package is designed to let customers vent their frustration in the company’s rapid Jaguar E Type V12 roadster, then spend a day relaxing and taking in the scenery in its sedate 1957 Morris Minor Traveller.

From Great Escape’s base on the edge of the Cotswolds customers can head in any direction and enjoy some great driving roads in Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. The Tortoise and Hare package includes 24 hours use of each car, unlimited mileage and free delivery and collection to local hotels. The package costs a remarkably stress-free £390. Readers can claim £25 off the cost when they quote ‘Tortoise’ when booking.

The Great Escape E Type is a 1972 Series 3 5.3 litre V12 roadster in Old English White with black leather interior. The Morris is an unrestored one-family-since-new car fitted with the 1000 cc engine and features very rare Dark Green paint, which was only used for a few years.

The Tortoise and Hare Weekend brings together two of Great Escape’s four new cars. Alongside the E Type and Morris, Great Escape has added a metallic blue Jaguar XJS V12 convertible and a Sable 1974 Jaguar XJ6 long wheelbase. Great Escape also has an Alfa Romeo Spider and Jensen Interceptor available for hire.

The credit crunch has become a media obsession and inevitably it’s getting people down. This package is our contribution to making it all a little easier to bear.

There really can’t be a much better way to get away from it all than driving a great car on a great road in the sunshine in the Cotswolds. By bringing these two cars together we’re hoping to create a few smiles.

Great Escape provides classic cars for self drive hire for daily and weekend use. For more details visit http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/ or call 01527 893733. Great Escape is the only classic car hire company with full online availability check, reservation service and online booking and payment.

Classic VW Golf GTI Mk1 now available to hire

The VW Golf GTI has come of age and been recognised as a true classic by the UK’s largest specialist classic car hire company. Great Escape Classic Car Hire has added a 1982 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1 1.6 in iconic Mars Red to its fleet. The car is available for self drive hire by the day, weekend or week.

The VW Golf GTI invented the idea of a fast, highly entertaining family hatchback. Interest in these cars has never faltered but has been increasing over the last few years, fuelled by nostalgia for the 1980s and the car’s suitability for tuning and styling tweaks.

The Great Escape VW Golf GTI is the first Mark 1 GTI available for self drive classic car rental in the UK and possibly the world. It is a totally standard 1982 car fitted with the free-revving 1600cc fuel injected engine developing 110bhp. The car is fitted with a sunroof, rear seatbelts and a five speed manual gearbox. Great Escape has been developing its fleet of 1980s classics with the addition of a Porsche 928 and Ford Capri during 2009.

It is an icon of the 80s and appeals as much to those who grew up with it as it does to younger people who love its old school styling. It’s the perfect car for scooting around the Cotswolds and Welsh Border roads on Great Escape's doorstep.

Relax and de-stress with a weekend in the Cotswolds

When the news is filled with credit crunches and sub-prime mortgages, we all need to destress. We’ve found a new way to relax that doesn’t involve foot spas, face packs or hill walking. Take to the wheel of a Morris Minor Traveller from http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/ and discover what it really means to sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery.

With a top speed of just 60 miles per hour and the sort of acceleration that keeps cyclists waiting, the cute Morris is the perfect addition to a relaxing, romantic weekend away. Great Escape can even provide gourmet picnic hampers and interesting route plans to help you get away from it all. From Great Escape’s site you can head for the Cotswolds, Wales, Shropshire, Worcestershire or Warwickshire. Great Escape can even recommend luxury boutique B&Bs and hotels.

The Morris costs £135 per day to hire. The price includes 24 hours use, unlimited mileage, insurance, a full information pack and carbon offsetting. It is the only one of its type to hire in Europe and one of only two in the world. Great Escape also has two Morris Minor Convertibles for hire.

The new location in Christchurch is within easy travelling time from London, Bath and Reading and convenient for exploring the Dorset coast and countryside as well as the New Forest.

Jensen Interceptor proves a classic car hire hit

http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/ has demonstrated the enduring popularity of the iconic Jensen Interceptor by adding two more of the big-windowed grand tourers to its classic car hire fleet. Great Escape has added a second 1974 Jensen Interceptor 7.2 litre Mk3 and a unique 1969 Jensen Interceptor 6.3 litre Mk1. The new cars complement its existing 1974 Interceptor Mk3. The cars are available to hire in Suffolk and the Cotswolds.

The new cars feature the most popular Jensen Interceptor colour combination of dark blue metallic paintwork and cream leather interior. The Mark 3 Interceptor car is one of the last cars made before Jensen collapsed in 1976. The Jensen Interceptor MK 1for hire from Great Escape has been restored at a cost of £70,000 restoration recently and is a unique opportunity to drive what is effectively a brand new Jensen. It features Mark 3 upgrades but retains the original 6.3 litre engine, which was recently rebuilt to a very high standard.

Great Escape now has the largest fleet of Jensen Interceptor hire cars in the world. The expansion reflects the enduring popularity of these cars, which were the celebrity wheels of their day. Long, low and featuring mammoth Chrysler V8 engines, the hand-built Jensen was built near to Great Escape’s base in Worcestershire for 10 years from 1966. The fleet of Jensens are available on a self drive basis for weddings and weekends. The hire package includes 24 hours use for every day booked, unlimited mileage, insurance and breakdown cover.

“There is a lot of interest in the Jensen Interceptor,” says Graham Eason of Great Escape. “But they are expensive cars to own and run because of maintenance and fuel consumption. Hiring an Interceptor is a great alternative to buying one – there’s no risk and for many of my customers, just driving one for a day or two is enough to fulfil a dream.”

Great Escape has a fleet of self drive and chauffeur hire classic cars from the 1930s to the 1990s including coupes, convertibles and saloons from Bentley, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Jensen and Morris as well as Rolls Royce. Mazda MX5 reaches classic status

The hugely popular Mazda MX-5, which celebrates 20 years in production in 2009, has been recognised as a bonafide classic by a leading classic car hire company. Great Escape Classic Car Hire (http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/) operates the largest specialist fleet of classic cars for one-off self drive hire in the UK and has added a 1997 limited edition Mark 1 Mazda MX-5 Dakar 1.8i to its fleet.

The Great Escape Mazda is the first Mazda MX5 Mark 1 available for self drive hire in the world. It features dark metallic blue paintwork with black leather interior and is fitted with the desirable 1.8 litre fuel injected engine and power steering. It is available to hire from the company’s base in Worcestershire, on the edge of the Cotswolds, for daily, weekly or weekend hire. Prices start at just £125 for 24 hours and include insurance and unlimited mileage.

The Mazda MX-5 was introduced in 1989 as a low-cost, lightweight sports car in the mould of the 1960s Lotus Elan. The Mark 1 features pop-up headlights, light weight and astonishing handling, which has been regularly praised by the motor press. Evo magazine recently voted the Mazda MX-5 amongst its top ten all time greatest drivers cars.

The addition of the Mazda MX-5 to Great Escape’s classic car hire fleet reflects its growing popularity and the changing profile of classic car enthusiasts. Modern classics like the 928 and Audi Quattro are joining traditional favourites like MGAs, Triumph TR6s and MGBs as cars of choice for weekends away.

There is a lot of debate on the internet about whether the Mazda MX-5 really is a classic car. For us it’s just a question of whether it ticks the right boxes – is it enjoyable to drive, is it interesting and does it have the grin factor? Our answer is yes to all three. The Mazda MX-5 is the spiritual successor to the MGB but a much better drive.

Great Escape has a fleet of self drive and chauffeur hire classic cars from the 1930s to the 1990s including coupes, convertibles and saloons from Bentley, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Jensen, Rolls Royce and Morris as well as Porsche. For more details visit http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/, call 01527 893733 or email info@greatescapecars.co.uk.

What do you buy the man who has everything?

It happens twice every 12 months, roughly around the time of birthdays and Christmas. And each time the same question - what do you buy the person of a certain age (ok, it's usually men, we admit it) who appears to have everything and wants nothing?

It's a challenge that gift companies and high street stores have been grappling with for decades, without much success. The list of ideas that they've created for anyone in this situation runs something like this:

1. A paperweight in the shape of a racing car

2. A pair of luxury golfing gloves

3. A battery powered weather station

4. A 12 month subscription to Wine Connoisseur

5. A diamond pattern sweater

Perhaps, like us at Great Escape, you're not convinced that he'll be entirely delighted by anything from this list. So instead we'd like to add an extra idea to your list.

A classic car hire gift voucher from Great Escape is what memories are made of. You don't have to be a pipe and slippers enthusiast to enjoy our cars, although if his tastes are traditional we cater for them too. One of our Christmas gift vouchers gives them the keys to one of 30 classic cars from the 1950s to 1990s and ranging from 1 litre Morris Minors to 7 litreV8 Jensen Interceptors. Along the way he can choose modern classics like a VW Golf GTI or Ford Capri or drop the top and enjoy a Mazda MX5.

Our gift vouchers put him in control - just choose the value or the price band and let him select the car. They're also valid for 12 months so you can leave the date free and wait for the summer to come along. Prices start at £125 and every hire day includes a full 24 hours use, insurance and unlimited mileage.

Great Escape has bases in Dorset, Cotswolds and Suffolk. To see the latest list of cars and locations click here.

The Ford Capri comes of age at 40

The Ford Capri has been recognised as a bonafide classic 40 years after it first went on sale. We've added a 1984 Ford Capri Mk3 2 litre S to our fleet of over 30 classic cars for rental. It is the first Capri available for hire in the world and now sits alongside classic rental cars like Jensen Interceptors, Jaguar E Types and Triumph Stags.

The Great Escape Ford Capri is available to hire to anyone aged 25 to 70 for daily, weekly or weekend use from the company’s Worcestershire base, which is ideally located for the scenic driving roads of the Cotswolds. The car is a low-owner, low mileage S fitted with the Pinto engine and finished in light metallic blue with grey Recaro ‘Lazer’ interior.

The addition of the Ford Capri is part of Great Escape’s drive to develop its fleet with 1980s classics. The company has recently added a VW Golf GTI Mk1, Alfa Romeo Alfasud Ti and Porsche 928. It already has a 1989 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit and 1988 Jaguar XJ-S convertible on the fleet.

The Ford Capri is an obvious car for our fleet. It looks great, it’s now quite rare and it’s rugged and reliable.

Our customers want to hire cars that they always wanted to drive or that they remember from their youth. The Capri is right up there as a motoring icon of the 1970s and1980s and deserves a place on our fleet just as much as a Jaguar E Type or Jensen Interceptor.

Great Escape has a fleet of self drive and chauffeur hire classic cars from the 1930s to the 1990s including coupes, convertibles and saloons from Bentley, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo, Jensen, Rolls Royce and Morris as well as Porsche. Classic car hire starts at £125 for 24 hours (the Capri is £145) and every hire day includes a full 24 hours use, unlimited mileage, insurance and breakdown cover. Relive the 1980s on the road

Children of the 1980s can now roll up the sleeves of their white jackets, kick back in their stonewash jeans and take their 80s revival to the road thanks to a small company in the Cotswolds. Great Escape Classic Car Hire has added a range of iconic 1980s classic cars to its fleet that are pure eyeliner and big hair.

The new Great Escape 80s cars include a VW Golf GTI Mark 1, Ford Capri S, Porsche 928, Jaguar XJ-S convertible and Rolls Royce Silver Spirit. This is the widest choice of 1980s classic cars in one place and Great Escape, which hires the cars from Inkberrow in Worcestershire, has put together driving experience packages that mean anyone of a certain age can flashback to the world of lip gloss, shoulder pads and Don Johnson for a weekend.

The 1980s driving experiences include driving routes – with optional 80s themed treasure hunt clues – and appropriate in-car entertainment, generally supplied by an original radio cassette system. Great Escape can also arrange accommodation in local hotels like the Cotswold House Hotel in Chipping Campden. Total immersion in the 1980s for those who want it can be provided through a period dress service.

Every car is available to hire by the day or weekend and the price includes a full 24 hours use for every day booked, unlimited mileage and insurance. Prices start at £145 or 24 hours and the packages can be bought as a gift voucher valid for 12 months and ideal for Christmas. The 1980s hot hatches, coupes and cabriolets join Great Escape’s existing fleet of 15 classic cars. They can be viewed at http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/cars-classiccarsbydecade-classiccarsofthe1980s.asp.

I grew up in the 1980s so these cars really bring it all back for me. But they’re not just a nostalgia trip – they’re fun to drive and bring a smile with every mile. I’m proud of the 80s and I think it’s time we celebrated its motoring heritage. We’ve picked some 80s icons that are accessible and won’t break the bank to hire. We plan to add more over the next few months.
