I hesitate to call our Cobra a kit car because really it isn't - it's a properly designed, factory built car that happens for the sake of convenience to use stuff off other cars under a body that looks like a Cobra. What that means is that we can, like the Mini, make driving a Cobra-styled car affordable and accessible. Instead of £2,500 a day it's just £229 a day to hire. It's also more reliable and less expensive to maintain than a Shelby Cobra. And, as a customer, when you drive a replica Cobra we hope you're rather less concerned about damaging it so you'll have a better time. Which is really what hiring a classic car is all about.
There are loads of Cobra replicas available and we looked around before choosing the Autocraft Python. We plumped for this because it looks right, has proper V8 power (a 3.5 litre Rover engine) but without too much oomph to keep us awake every time it goes on hire. It also has a roof. This particular car was virtually brand new. Based on Jaguar running gear and built several years ago it has a nicely aged patina but has covered just 700 miles from new. So the interior and paintwork are in excellent condition - it is finished in a really nice shade of burgundy that makes it pleasantly different from the common blue and silver Cobras usually seen.
