Britain is right up there when it comes to History with a capital H. It's everywhere. And as we discovered when researching our new Heritage Driving Day, at Great Escape Cars we're right slap bang in the middle of it all. History and Heritage that is.
So when the BBC began filming the spectacular Wolf Hall drama it's perhaps not much of a surprise that most of the locations they used happen to be within spitting distance of our Midlands base. The series is based on the rather brilliant book by Hilary Mantel and has received rave reviews.
We like any excuse for a good drive so we've researched the series and put together a two day driving route that connects six of the main locations used in Wolf Hall. While an interest in the series will obviously help, you don't have to be a big fan of Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell to appreciate the majesty of locations like Broughton Castle, Gloucester Cathedral and Lacock Abbey and the rather excellent roads and scenery that connect them up.
The six properties visited along the route are:
- Gloucester Cathedral
- Raglan Castle
- Lacock Abbey
- Berkeley Castle
- Broughton Castle
- Chastleton House
The 300 mile route can easily be completed in two relaxing days and begins and ends at our Midlands base near Redditch. You can choose any of our hire cars for the route, with prices starting at just £160 for the two day experience.
We will provide you with a detailed touring route and background information on the six locations that you will be visiting. We can also arrange accommodation en route.
